In 2014, we began the Green Schools Programme. Last year we worked so hard to be awarded the Green Schools flag. Every Tuesday and Thursday we emptied the bins and ensured that each class was sorting their waste into recycling, waste and compost. We had a Green Schools Active Day, a logo competition, indoor and outdoor litter blitzes and quizzes to help everybody understand the importance of waste management. In March 2016 the Green Schools inspector came from Galway to check how clean our school was and to decide if we deserved a Green Schools flag. When the inspector finished checking the school and talking to the Green School Committee, she told us we would be getting the flag. We were delighted. In May, Orla Mullins, Sarah
Walsh and Joe Fahy went along with Miss Dolan to the Radisson Hotel in Galway to celebrate Green Schools 2016 and to receive the flag on behalf of the school. On the 2nd of June 2016, we raised the flag and we had a party to celebrate our great achievement. We are very proud to have our Green Schools flag flying high outside our school. It is a lovely reward for all the hard work we put into achieving the flag and it also reminds us to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
